HDR Brachytherapy
Product Description
Brachytherapy is a cancer treatment with a long history, but it’s constantly evolving with modern technology. It involves placing tiny radioactive seeds directly inside or close to the tumor. This allows doctors to deliver a powerful dose of radiation exactly where it’s needed, minimizing damage to healthy tissues nearby. Brachytherapy comes in two main forms: low-dose rate and high-dose rate. Low-dose rate uses seeds that stay in place for a while, slowly releasing radiation. High-dose rate uses a stronger radioactive source for a shorter, more intense treatment. This technique is used for a variety of cancers, including prostate, cervix, and even some skin cancers.
Clinical Benefits
- Per treatment, HDR is a much shorter procedure in terms of minutes vs. days than Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy which require longer treatment times than High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy
- Increasingly more common, HDR technique effectiveness and shorter procedure (that may require multiple treatments) have replaced LDR techniques for most body sites.
